Elizabeth Spencer To All Instructors

Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology with a focus in Health Administration from Old Dominion University and is board certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She began her career working in hematology and blood banking in a hospital laboratory setting before her growing passion for education led her into the classroom.

With a lifelong love of learning, education has always played an important role in Elizabeth’s life. Before graduating from college, she gained early teaching experience tutoring math and ESOL students. She later worked as a substitute teacher with Chesapeake Public Schools, where she taught across a wide range of grade levels and subject areas, before transitioning to teach middle school science and English with Norfolk Public Schools. 

When her oldest daughter reached school age, Elizabeth began her homeschooling journey, a path that deepened her involvement in the community. Since then she has continued to teach a wide variety of classes for students ages 4–18 in homeschool co-ops, including science, writing, literature, music, and art. She is passionate about meeting students where they are and creating engaging, meaningful, and accessible learning experiences within supportive, flexible environments where all students can thrive. 

With a deep love for the arts, Elizabeth is also passionate about supporting music in the community. She serves on the board of Galatea Chamber Music and is actively involved with her younger daughter’s youth orchestra, where she serves as an ensemble manager.

Outside the classroom, Elizabeth enjoys reading, music, hiking, and spending time with family and friends, especially over a lively game night. This year is especially meaningful as her oldest daughter begins her final year of college, with graduation anticipated in spring 2027 — a joyful milestone in their homeschooling journey.
